CCSF Newsletter September 2022

Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.

Benjamin Franklin

Dear Friends,

At CCSF we try to report stories and trends that we see in our locale and country through the lens of domestic abuse and harm done to those survivors in our culture.

At this time, I hope you will join us in encouraging and supporting Care Net Centers of Puget Sound; they are not abortion clinics. There have been 80-plus attacks on such centers around the nation in the post-Roe era. Physical damage and ongoing threats towards staff and clients have occurred.

Please keep these centers in your prayers as they give support and help for hurting women and men in our society. Ultrasounds, education, post abortion support, parenting help, and resources are offered free of charge. In the most difficult times, Care Net gives help without expectations.

Wishing you a happy fall.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence promotes Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a purple ribbon to symbolize and honor, the courage and dedication of those working to end domestic violence.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month was first observed in October 1987. In 1989, Congress passed Public Law 101-112, officially designating October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with similar legislation passed every October since.

Am I Being Abused? (an excellent 15-minute video)

Am I Being Abused? is an excellent, 15 minute video from DomesticShelters.org. It is a comprehensive overview that can be used as an introduction to domestic violence training.

Addiction and Domestic Abuse

Addiction and domestic abuse have a dangerous relationship, often feeding into one another. In an article from Boca Recovery Center we are reminded what such a relationship looks like.

“Studies show that domestic abuse is generally much more common when one or both partners… engage in drug abuse, including alcohol abuse. Additionally, being a victim of domestic violence is known to increase a person’s risk of developing an addiction.”

We are also reminded that an abusive relationship, also characterized by substance abuse, is not sustainable. Suggestions and resources for getting help are offered in this piece.

Congratulations to Nancy Murphy!

A Good Cup of Coffee

A good cup of coffee that blesses others: You can support the work of many nonprofit programs with every purchase of a bag of Boaz Coffee.

Boaz Coffee Company, based in Kenmore, has a heart to provide high quality coffee while blessing people through their business.

Wouldn’t a bag of Boaz Coffee make a great Christmas present? It’s not too soon to be thinking about Christmas!

Abuse Recovery Ministry & Services (ARMS) News

Stacey Womack, Executive Director for ARMS (Abuse Recovery Ministry & Services), reports that they can now virtually train leaders who want to lead ARMS curriculum. A new round of training starts every 8-9 weeks. More locations for in-person groups are opening in churches, pregnancy centers, and missions.

ARMS also offers virtual options every day of the week for victims/survivors to attend for free via Zoom. One group is offered in Spanish. For more information, call 503-846-9284 or 509-484-0600.

National Diaper Need Awareness Week, 9/24/22-10/2/22

Babies of Homelessness is supporting the emotional well-being of the fastest-growing and least-visible segment of those who are unsheltered— families with children. Diaper need is a hidden and silent crisis that disproportionately affects families experiencing homelessness.

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, an estimated one in three families struggles to provide enough diapers to keep a child clean, dry, and healthy. Families seeking assistance can call 866-442-6443.
